Mindset and Grading
While I’m working on some new post for my blog, I thought I’d share some other blog posts that may trigger some interesting educational explorations for you.
Having a Growth Mindset is a big topic these days, and with good reason. Every math teacher knows this, as we constantly hear the phrase “I’m not good at math.” Geoff Schmit’s recent post Introducing Growth Mindset is a good place to start reading up on mindset. Not only does he share his path forward on this topic, but he also links to Mylène’s blog which I believe to be one of the best edublogs out there.
For those people interested in reading some practices in implementing Standards Based Grading, Kelly O’Shea has a new post on a revised SBG scheme for grading seniors. As Kelly mentions in her post, she recognizes the big part that Term 1 marks play for students in Grade 12.
Finally for today, Carolyn Durley has a post on the “why” of grades in school. It has a similar tone as a post of mine (The Power of the Mark), although I’m happy to say that Carolyn is one hell of wordsmith and passes her ideas along better than me!
